Speeding fines

So as a learner driver you only have 4 points until you have an open licence. Then it goes up to 12 points.But any you have lost in the mean time are still included. The fines and demerit points are as follows:

Current penalties for speeding

The average speeding fine $194 that's around 4 hours work (average Queensland wage)

  • Less than 13km/h over the speed limit:
    $168 + 1 demerit point
  • At least 13km/h but not more than 20km/h over the speed limit:
    $252 + 3 demerit points
  • More than 20km/h but not more than 30km/h over the speed limit:
    $420 + 4 demerit points
  • More than 30km/h but not more than 40km/h over the speed limit:
    $588 + 6 demerit points
  • More than 40km/h over the speed limit:
    $1,177 + 8 demerit points and 6 month suspension
